Remote gambling

The legal term in British law for gambling that people take part in at a distance: over the internet, by telephone, television, radio or other electronic technology. Online casinos and betting sites are the main examples.

In practice

A bet placed in a betting shop is non-remote gambling; the same bet placed in the bookmaker's app is remote gambling and falls under a separate remote licence with its own technical standards.
